Here it is, the very first episode of Golf Strategy School! This is actually just a brief talk with me, Marty Griffin, about what you can expect in the future regarding the podcast.
I also give you an inside look at my life in golf including what brought me to the game and why I’ve decided to start the podcast.
If you don’t feel like listening to the episode right now feel free to check out the transcription below.
Well this one caught my eye earlier in the week and I haven’t been able to stop laughing since. There is an online petition that was started on ipetitions.com requesting that Chris Berman be banned from all golf broadcasts. It was not made immediately clear who filed the petition but they are quite lathered up about this particular grievance:
Chris Berman has been ruining the US Open television experience for fans of the world’s greatest golf tournament for far too long!
Now I agree that Berman isn’t a great fit for the golf announcer’s chair but I’m not about to jump on my digital soapbox and request that he be removed. It seems that most of the internet if also indifferent about the verbose veteran of ESPN, as there are only 24 signatures currently on the petition. If I really get that bothered I’ll simply watch the broadcast on mute.
Here’s the link if you want to check it out for yourself or feel you need to jump on the bandwagon too. Ban Chris Berman from all PGA Tour Golf Broadcasts!
I’m a person who loves statistics and the seemingly useless attachment of numbers to results. For example: Did you know every single baseball player who played for the Atlanta Braves and was nicknamed “Crime Dog” hit 493 homeruns? Or that 0% of the characters from Napoleon Dynamite are French Emperors or made of trinitrotoluene? Well, while feeding my numerical urges I stumbled across some pretty useFUL numbers that relate to what some golfers view as The Holy Grail, shooting a 79.
This information comes from Peter Sanders, the creator of the complete game analysis website www.shotbyshot.com. There have been over 200,000 rounds entered through Peter’s site and he used data from 18,000 different rounds in which male amateurs were able to break the ethereal plane of 80 to card the elusive 79. So let’s take a look at the data.
I’ve always been a big fan of Dave Stockton when it comes to putting expertise. I was digging through some old articles and I found some great putting tips that I still use today to bust myself out of my putting slumps.
